2017 Jeep Compass to be priced at INR 16 lakhs in India

Will go on sale in August 2017

Thanks to very high localisation levels, the 2017 Jeep Compass will not only be the most affordable Jeep in India, but also undercut its rivals. The compact SUV was expected to start from around INR 25-30 lakh, but citing an undisclosed source, a report from Overdrive says that the 2017 Jeep Compass will start at just INR 16 lakh (ex-showroom).

The 2017 Jeep Compass is available internationally in four trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk. A report last year said that the off-road focused Trailhawk trim level is not planned for sale in India. A 1.4-litre FIRE MultiAir 2 petrol, 2.0-litre Tigershark petrol, 2.4-litre Tigershark MultiAir 2 petrol, 1.6-litre MultiJet II diesel and 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel are the available engine options, but only two of them should make it to India: 1.4 FIRE MultiAir 2 petrol and 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel.

The 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine could be offered with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic that sends power to the front wheels, while the 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine could be paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. An AWD system is likely to be exclusive to the 2.0 diesel variant.

Noteworthy features of the 2017 Jeep Compass sold in the Brazilian market are, projector-beam headlamps with LED signature lights, LED signature tail lamps, 19-inch wheels, dual chrome exhaust tips, dual-pane sunroof, 7.0-inch full-color LED instrument cluster, Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and 9-speaker BeatsAudio Premium II audio system with a 12-channel amplifier and a subwoofer.

FCA India will manufacture the 2017 Jeep Compass at its Ranjangaon facility in Maharashtra, and sales  will commence in August 2017. Right-hand markets like Australia, Japan, New Zealand and South Africa may import units manufactured in India.

Land Rover To Launch Discovery Sport 2.0 diesel Soon

The new 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine comes in two states of tune - 150hp and 180hp The Land Rover Discovery Sport is set to become the next model from JLR to receive the new 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine in India. Currently, the Discovery Sport is the last product from JLR to use the 2.2-litre diesel in India. The introduction of the new in-house developed power plant will thus mark the end of the 2.2-litre unit’s life-span in JLR’s India line-up. It also brings the model’s engine range in line with the SUV maker’s international portfolio. As per the automaker’s website, the new 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel will be offered in two states of tune – a 150hp derivative and a more powerful 180hp variant. The 150hp derivative will be offered in lower trim levels while the top trims will use the 180hp unit. The nine-speed automatic gearbox from the current model will be carried forward . Interestingly, with the update, the more powerful diesel is also set t...

Hyundai Sonata Facelift Teased — Now More Aggressive Than Ever

The upcoming Sonata facelift has been teased by Hyundai and looks sharper than ever and is expected to arrive this summer A set of sketches spotted on one of Hyundai's various Facebook pages has shown off the design changes set to come with the facelifted Sonata. The illustrations preview a super aggressive design for the new Sonata with angles and creases and lines everywhere; however, expect most of those to disappear by the time the actual car comes out later this year. The facelifted Sonata is set to retain the turbocharged 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre petrol engines that currently power the car and the facelifted car could even keep hold of the quad exhaust design for the sportier variant. We are still not sure when the new Sonata will debut but with the car's popularity in the United States, an unveil could be expected at the New York Auto Show in April. The Hyundai Sonata facelift may not be due till summer, but Hyundai have already taken the...
